Astros Announce Praise in the Park Gospel Celebration at

Minute Maid Park, June 5

 

Houston, TX –The Houston Astros are bringing the joy and spirit of Gospel music to Minute Maid Park as the club hosts Praise in the Park on Saturday, June 5 at 2:30 p.m. The celebration of faith, family and heritage will take place prior to the Astros vs. Cubs 6:05 p.m. game. A portion of the Praise in the Park ticket proceeds will benefit the United Negro College Fund.

 

Fans will enjoy a special pre-game Gospel concert featuring Houston native James Fortune, Vickie Winans and “Houston’s 100 Voices of Praise”. Fortune is a Stellar Award nominee and winner of two prestigious ASCAP Awards for Gospel Song of the Year claiming the accolades for “I Trust You” (2009) and “You Survived” (2006). Fortune’s current album entitled “Encore”, recently debuted at No. 2 on Billboard’s Top Gospel Album chart. Bearing a name synonymous with gospel music, Winans lends a high-powered, energetic, yet smooth and inspirational style as showcased in all her Grammy-nominated, Stellar Award and NAACP Award Winning albums. Winan’s current single, “How I Got Over”, spent nine weeks at No. 1 and a full year in the Top 10 on Billboard’s Gospel Music Charts in 2009.

 

City-wide auditions for “Houston’s 100 Voices of Praise”, assembled especially for the June 5 event, begin this Friday and will take place from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at Abiding Faith Church located at 15376 Fondren Rd., Missouri City, Texas 77489. Church choir members from all over Houston are invited to audition and compete for the opportunity to inspire, uplift and entertain Houston’s gospel audience as part of “Houston’s 100 Voices of Praise” choir. The judging panel will feature local gospel leaders.

 

Immediately following the concert, fans will enjoy a Heritage Expo. Several culturally themed displays will be located throughout the ballpark including that of Negro League Baseball, the Buffalo Soldier’s Museum, The Ensemble Theatre and many more.

 

Praise in the Park tickets are on sale now and start at just $14. Ticket prices include admission to the pre-game concert and the Astros game.
