Congressman Andre Carson and Independent Congressional Candidate Rev. Mmoja Ajabu strongly disagreed on sanctions on the repressive government of Zimbabwe and other issues in separate spirited interviews on Afternoons with Amos. Ajabu, who is running for Carson’s seat this fall appeared on the program to complain that county election officials were stalling on approving his nominating petitions. But later in the interview Ajabu blasted Cong. Carson for supporting, in Ajabu’s words, “killing children in Zimbabwe” because of Carson’s support for bi-partisan supported economic sanctions against the repressive government of Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe.

In response, Carson explained to listeners that the sanctions, levied by the United States and the European Union are designed to cripple the Zimbabwe government; not its people. A government that has harassed its people and mutilated women and girls. Carson defended American and European actions reminding listeners that the people of Zimbabwe receive millions in humanitarian aid from the US and other nations. Carson also reminded listeners that at one time Ajabu attempted to evade the sanctions and do business with the repressive Zimbabwe government.
