Don Thompson has been named the first African-American CEO of McDonald’s; the iconic, American-based, worldwide restaurant chain. Thompson, who grew up in Indy, graduating from North Central High School in 1980 and Purdue University with an Electrical Engineering degree in 1984, succeed CEO Jim Skinner who retires June 30. After college Thompson pursue an engineering career, but joined McDonald’s in 1990. And has risen through the ranks ever since. On Afternoons with Amos, I talked with James Poore, an African-American McDonald’s Owner/Operator in Indianapolis about Thompson and the significance of Thompson becoming McDonald’s first Black CEO.
