More facts about the reality of gangs were revealed in a special Afternoons with Amos hour. Three individuals who’ve worked or years in the streets with gang members and potential gang members, Rev. Byron Alston, Rev. Horatio Luster and longtime community activist Reggie Jones talked frankly with listeners about gangs. Marion County Sheriff John Layton weighed in what law enforcement is doing and can do about gangs. Listeners learned a new term – “crews” – which refers to a type of gangs in Indy. Listeners also heard from Gabriel Nowden, a student at Indianapolis Metropolitan Charter High School, with his unique perspectives on why young people today are attracted by gangs and what the parents and community can do.
