Lewis says buying local is important because the dollars stay local.

“We’ve got 10 guys and gals working here. Local families, our owner is a local guy who lives a mile from here and instead of taking your holiday dollars and bringing them in and dropping them off someplace so they can ship it to Minneapolis to the corporate office, We’re feeding and taking care of families right here in Indy. It’s great and I think our customers love that.”

Big Hat Books also in Broad Ripple is not only a locally owned bookstore it also supports other local efforts from artists and authors.”

“There is an upstairs you can walk around check out the art and all of it is available for purchase,” says Eddy.

Megan Eddy says for Big Hat Books, every day is important to their success.

“Every day is a big day for this bookstore because everyday we’re welcoming not only regular customers back in, but they bring in their family members, they bring in their children and so everyday is vital for the success of the bookstore and that’s why everyone who comes in gets treated like an old friend.”
