41 Days after the deadly explosion that killed two people and damaged dozens of homes on Indianapolis’ South Side, Three people have been arrested.
Homeowner Monserrate Shirley, her boyfriend, Mark Leonard, and his brother Robert Leonard were arrested Friday morning on a list of charges in arson and murder. The motive of the intentional explosion was insurance fraud.
On the night of the explosion, November 10th, Shirley, her 12 year old daughter, and her boyfriend Leonard who lived together at 8349 Fieldfare Way and were visiting a casino is Lawrenceburg.
WTLC has learned the death penalty could be under consideration for this case.
A probable cause affidavit will be released Friday and it will reveal that the explosion was sparked from tampering with the home’s microwave oven and fireplace. More details of how prosecutors think that led to the explosion are expected to be released Friday at 11:15 in a news conference at The City-County Building in downtown Indianapolis.
