Indianapolis area organizations and institutions appeared on Afternons with Amos 9th annual program to showcase the various events and activities occurring during the upcoming Dr. Martin Luther King Holiday Weekend, January 19th – 21st. Events include watching the Second Term Inauguration Ceremonies for President Barack Obama. Groups appearing were White River State Park, Madame Walker Theater, Indianapolis Museum of Art, Indiana Christian Leadership Conference, IUPUI Black Student Union, American Legion Post #249, Peace Learning Center, Hendricks County Alliance for Diversity. SATURDAY, January 19th

Peace Learning Center’s 15th annual Dr. King Festival. Enjoy music, poetry, bands, dance and art. 11am-3pm at Christian Theological Seminary 1000 W 42nd Street, Indianapolis. For info www.peacelearningcenter.org.

American Legion Post #249. Come Watch the Presidential Swearing In and Inauguration at the American Legion Post #249, 2523 Dr. Martin Luther King Avenue. Continental breakfast starts at 10am. Events run till 3pm. For more information www.Post249thh.org.

44th Annual IUPUI/Black Student Union Dr. Martin Luther King Dinner. Guest Speaker former Black Panther Party Founder and activist Bobby Seale.  Indiana Roof Ballroom starting at 6pm. MONDAY, January 21st – Dr. MLK Holiday & Inauguration Day

Indianapolis Museum of Art. Dr. King Day activities at the museum 4000 Michigan Road. You and your family can enjoy all that the IMA has to offer. The art. The galleries and exhibits and much more. There’s guided tours of the Museum’s galleries run every half hour from 11:30. Enjoy a film in the Museum’s TOBY Theater about the life and career of the legendary Harry Belafonte. Plus watch the Inauguration Ceremonies Live in the DeBoest Hall. 11am – 4pm. For info www.imamuseum.org

White River State Park Annual Dr. King Day Activities.  All the museums and attractions at the Park Downtown are Open and Free. Eiteljorg Museum, NCAA Hall of Champions. Indiana State Museum. IMAX Theater. Indianapolis Zoo. White River Gardens. Victory Field.  Admission free to each attraction with a canned good donation to Gleaners.  Plus health screenings at Victory Field and free concessions with blood donation at the IMAX Theater. 44th Annual Indiana Christian Leadership Conference Dr. King Day Celebration. 10am St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church 1651 Rev. Andrew Brown Avenue. Traditional, uplifting church service honored the Life and Dream of Dr. King. Guest Speaker author and Martin University professor Dr. Daniel Hembree.

Madame Walker Theater Annual Dr. King Day Celebration.  Starts with a continental breakfast (while it lasts) at the Indianapolis Urban League Building 777 Indiana Avenue. Then 10:30am a March led by Dr. King’s Fraternity Alpha Phi Alpha to the Walker Theater.  There a short program followed by the live TV coverage of the Swearing in and Inaugural Address by President Barack Obama.  Afterwards a performance by Iibada Dance Company. Hendricks County Alliance for Diversity. This organization holds their 8th Dr. King Day Celebration. Guest Speaker Dr. Pat Payne, head of Multicultural Education for Indianapolis Public Schools.
