In a united front, several of the city’s key Black ministerial organizations and associations and coalitions came together to speak out about the the twin problems of youth violence in Indianapolis and the lack of positive activities for the vast majority of the city’s Black law abiding youth. During a special Afternoons with Amos, leaders of the Ten Point Coalition, Baptist Ministers Alliance, Interdenominational Ministers Alliance, Westside Ministers Alliance and ministers from COGIC and IndyCan gathered in the AM1310 The Light Studios for a full and frank two hour discussion of the issues and possible solutions. The ministers not only spoke out against youth and teen violence, but the lack of recreational activities on weekend evenings for youth, the lack of jobs for youth who want to work. The ministers talked about lack of parental and guardian responsibility and the importance of not only the church steeping up, but other community, civic and business institutions, along with the Indianapolis political leadership. The group engaged in a spirited discussion with Amos and listeners discussing a wide range of possible solutions and issues for the community to consider to deal with this growing problem.
