Blood Sample From EMT Crash Sent To State Lab

The blood sample taken from the woman that caused the weekend crashed that killed two Indianapolis EMTs is being sent for a toxicology screen. The state lab will test for the presence of any of 12 different drugs. Marion County prosecutors said Tuesday they do have blood alcohol content results for 21-year-old Jade Hammer, but will not release the information.

Friends and Family Say Farewell

Friends and family members will speak today at the public memorial for Indianapolis EMTs Tim McCormick and Cody Medley. The two were killed over the weekend when a car slammed into their ambulance. Today’s memorial begins at 10 a.m. at Clowes Memorial Hall on the campus of Butler University.

Senate Passes IMS Improvement Bill

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is one step closer to getting the help it needs to finance improvements at the racetrack. The Senate voted 37-to-12 yesterday on a bill that would allow the Speedway to keep some of the tax money it generates through a motorsports development district. Up to five-million dollars annually of the sales and income taxes generated within that special taxing district would be set aside to help IMS pay for new lights, upgrades to the grandstands, restrooms and tunnels, and making the facility more handicap accessible.

Connersville Teacher Accused Of Inappropriate Relationship

A former Connersville High School teacher is facing charges for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a student. Police say math teacher James Spivey had sex with a 17-year-old girl who also played on the basketball team he coached. Spivey resigned from the school in early February after police began looking into the alleged relationship.

IMPD Launching Missing Persons Website

IMPD is launching a missing persons website. Investigators say the online database will let people report information anonymously and will hopefully help the police department solve some of its cases. IMPD receives more than four-thousand missing person reports every year.

48 Jobs Coming To Fishers

More jobs are coming to Fishers. First Internet Bank of Indiana announced Tuesday it’s moving into a building that was once occupied by St. Vincent Health Medical Center. Town Manager Scott Fadness says not only will 48 jobs be created by the move, but the once tax-exempt property will become taxable.

Weather, Driver Speed Caused I-70 Pileup

Last month’s massive pileup on I-70 was caused by a sudden white-out and drivers going too fast for the weather conditions. That’s according to Indiana State Police investigators who have been reviewing the crash. The pileup involved 41 vehicles and killed one person, while ten others were sent to the hospital.

Mother Of Crime Spree Victim Wants Answers

The mother of the man killed last week wants to speak with the parents of the teenagers accused of killing him. Diane Sharp told the “Indianapolis Star” she doesn’t have a grudge against either parent, but wants to know why her son was killed. Seventeen-year-old Sirquain [[ sir-quan ]] Burr and a 15-year-old are accused of shooting John Yingling to death as he sat in his truck in his driveway.

Day Care Death Likely Caused By SIDS

The Hamilton County Coroner says the baby that died at a Carmel day care last month likely died of SIDS. Stacey Cox Child Care was forced to close its doors after the five-month-old was found not breathing in a broken crib on January 24th. Officials say the day care was unlicensed and two caregivers tested positive for marijuana.

Hoosiers Break Michigan State Losing Streak

The Hoosiers are celebrating after ending a 17 game losing streak in East Lansing. IU beat Michigan State last night 72-to-68 at the Breslin Center. The Hoosiers play Minnesota February 26th.
