Police Investigate West side Murder

Indianapolis detectives are investigating a homicide on the city’s west side in the 1500 block of 27th street.

Around 7:30 last night, Officers said a person was shot, but was awake and breathing when they arrived.

The shooting victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he died from his injuries.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS.

 

Baby Nearly Drowns in Indianapolis Pond

IMPD is investigating after a 20-month-old child almost drowned in a retention pond on the city’s west side.

The incident took place near Rockville and Girls School Roads.

An official said the child’s parents pulled their child, who was only in the water for a matter of seconds, out of the pond before first responders had arrived.

The child was alert when headed to Riley Hospital for Children and is expected to be OK.

 

Woman Accidentally Fires .44 Magnum Through Apartment

A central Indiana woman was arrested on a charge of criminal recklessness after telling police she accidentally fired a .44 Magnum rifle.

The Indy Star reports 40-year-old Linda Smith was arrested Friday after she allegedly fired a shot through the floor of her apartment, about 15 miles south of Indianapolis. Her neighbor told the Johnson County police the shot came through his ceiling, hit a clock and lodged in the wall.

Police said Smith knew the rifle was loaded, but thought the safety was on. No one was injured.

 

Marion Police Search For Suspect In Bar Shooting

Police in Marion are looking for 29-year-old Jerry Campbell, a suspect in a bar shooting early Sunday morning at RD’s Bar where Officers found three people suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Police said Campbell is 6 feet 2 inches and 185 pounds.

 

Missing Texas Girl Found In Indianapolis

An Amber Alert issued in Texas has ended here in Indianapolis. Police said 14 year old Sommer Brown was found safe yesterday with her Non-Custodial Mother, in an Fishers apartment complex.

An IMPD officer on patrol found Brown’s silver Ford Explorer mentioned in the Amber Alert.

An investigation brought police to the apartment complex where Brown was found. The mother has a history of abusive behavior, was arrested and taken to the Hamilton County Jail.

 

Skylar Diggins Not Likely To Join Fever

Notre Dame guard Skylar Diggins likely will not be on the board by the time the Indiana Fever select in tonight’s WNBA draft.   But, a pair of other Indiana-bred players may be.

Kelly Faris from UConn and Alex Bentley from Penn State, both Indiana high school players, could be options for Fever coach Lin Dunn.  The Fever have the ninth pick in the draft.
