Indianapolis is known for speed. And a new effort using an adjective for speed is trying to plan the future of Indianapolis’ Downtown and the neighborhoods that surround Downtown. The effort is called “Velocity” and its spurred by Indianapolis Downtown, Inc.  They’ve recruited a group of volunteers from business and civic organizations to tart to map a plan on how Indianapolis’ Downtown should be in the next five to ten years.  The v folks behind Indy Velocity appeared on Afternoons with Amos to talk about the project and reassure the listeners and the community that Velocity is not an effort to gentrify neighborhoods near downtown or to push out existing poor and working class and minority residents.  Appear on Afternoons with Amos to explain Indy Velocity was Indianapolis Downtown Inc President Sherry Seiwert, Indy Velocity Steering Committee Chair Krista Skidmore and City-County Councilman Joe Simpson who represents a some of the neighborhoods to the north and east of downtown.  The three had a lively discussion with Amos and listeners about what should Downtown be and what should Downtown’s relationship be with surrounding neighborhoods.
