On Tuesday, April 30, proud father and pastor of Empowerment Temple in Baltimore, MD, Jamal Bryant celebrated his twin daughters’ birthdays. Angel and Adore, who posed for an adorable snap with Daddy, received a very special birthday gift—a prayer.
Bryant, 41, who has opened up regarding his shortcomings on multiple occasions, wrote on Twitter, “Dear Lord, on this my daughters birthday bless their dreams, let them have no fears & give them men better than their father!”
Better than him, specifically, would mean, faithful in marriage.
In February, the World War Me author wrote an open letter to Ebony Magazine admitting, “In 2007 I participated in an extramarital affair that resulted ultimately in the termination of my marriage to my incredible wife Gizelle.”
In the same written address, Bryant also chided the magazine for printing that he had impregnated a 17-year-old minor—a widely-believed rumor he called “categorically and completely untrue.”
In a March 2013 interview with TV One’s Roland Martin, the preacher was transparent about the indiscretion that created turmoil in his world.
“I was a national televangelist since I was 29 and the whole world had opened up for me,” said Bryant, reflecting on how the whirlwind success of his ministry negatively impacted his character.
Cheating behind the scenes, while preaching on stages before thousands on a regular basis, became his way of life. Bryant had no inkling that everything would crumble around him and that his philandering would eventually catch up to him.
He continued, “Nothing in my mind ever said, one, I would ever get caught; number two, that my wife would ever leave; number 3, that my church would tank out.”
