In her first visit to Afternoons with Amos, new Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann talked about a wide range of subjects with Amos and listeners.  Lt. Gov. Ellspermann talked about the state’s foreclosure prevention programs and the 1-877-GETHOPE phone line.  The Lt. Governor’s Office oversees the Indiana Housing and Community Development Department which oversees the foreclosure prevention programs.  Listeners expressed concern about the recently signed Power Grab Law for Indianapolis which eliminates the Council’s At Large seats and gives more power to the Mayor.  But Ellspermann also told Amos in her conversations with people around the state they’re expressing a desire for more local control.  Indiana’s Lt. Governor is also over Indiana’s Agriculture Department and she talked about the state of agriculture in Indiana, which is better than 2012’s drought year.  The new Lt. Governor has a PhD in engineering.  And increasing the numbers of students studying STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and math) is an important to her.  She told listeners how important it is for more minority youngsters to take math and science courses.  And talked about efforts of FFA and others to increase these types of programs in Indiana’s schools. The Lt. Governor is also in charge of Homeland Security efforts for the state and she talked about planning in the aftermath of the Boston bombings.  Ellspermann also spoke of a new initiative to preserve and increase the number of defense related jobs in Indiana.  A native of southwestern Indiana, Lt. Gov. Ellspermann also told Amos and listeners of the importance of the now completed sections of the controversial I-69 highway and the importance it has in her region of the state.  Click the Arrow to Hear Amos” Full Interview with Lt.
