A woman was killed in a fatal fire on the city’s northwest side last evening.

The fire was at the Whispering Pine Apartment Complex near 38th street and High School Road.

Crews had the fire under control within 20 minutes, and found the body of an adult female.

Neighbors described the victim as being in her late 30s or early 40s.

12 Year Old Boy Hospitalized After Explosions 

A 12 year old child, suffered non-life-threatening injuries from an explosive device in Hancock County.

The boy detonated the explosive outside his home.

Investigators are trying to determine if the boy made the explosive device, and if his parents were home at the time. The boy was taken to the hospital with superficial injuries and his current condition is not yet known.

Man Jumps From Window, 9 People Escape Thursday Morning Fire 

Nine people escaped a burning home on the city’s east side early This Morning in the 2500 block of East Washington Street.

Eight residents ran from the home, and one of the residents jumped from a second floor window.  The resident who jumped injured his ankle and was taken to Wishard Hospital in good condition.

Although firefighters were able to gain control of the blaze and douse the flames in about 15 minutes, the fire caused $40,000 in damages, officials said. (Picture Courtesy: WRTV)

IMPD To Add More Officers to Street Beat

Indianapolis Police Chief Rick Hite is trying to put more officers on the city’s streets. Hite admits the number of officers has decreased in recent years.  He says he’s trying to identify officers on desk duty that can be reassigned to street duty.  So far, about 100 officers are slated for reassignment.

Death of Woman Found Dead in Pool Ruled Accidental

The Hamilton County Coroner’s office rules the death of a Noblesville woman found in a swimming pool Tuesday was accidental.  An autopsy performed yesterday revealed 76-year-old Marylyn Webb had no medical problems and did not suffer trauma.  Her body was found in the pool at her home on Mill Farm road by family members.

IU Announces Tuition Hikes

The Indiana University Board of Trustees votes to raise tuition for all its campuses beginning next year.  The board voted yesterday to increase tuition by one-point-seven-five percent over the next two years.  Non-residents at I-U Bloomington will see a tuition increase of two-point-seven-five percent.  Officials say it is the lowest increase in 30 years.
