It’s another milestone for African-Americans in Indiana. The Indiana National Guard has promoted a longtime Guard leader to be the new Assistant Adjutant General of the country’s fourth largest Army National Guard. Wayne Black, a 17 year veteran of the Guard, is being promoted from Colonel to Brigadier General. During Afternoons with Amos’ live broadcast from the Indianapolis Urban League’s annual Luncheon, Amos met General Black and introduced him to listeners and the community. General Black is a seventeen year veteran of the Guard. Wayne Black comes from a military family as he told Amos in the interview. He’s a graduate of The Citadel, with Masters degrees from the Army War College and from Indiana Wesleyan University. General Black joined the National Guard in 1996 and has moved through the leadership ranks ever since. Brigadier General is the initial “flag rank” of a General in either the Army, Air Force or Marines. And its the second highest rank in the National Guard. Major General is the highest.
