One of the highlights of Afternoons with Amos each year is when we visit your Indiana State Fair.  The Fair isn’t just a seventeen day entertainment and food event which this year set a new attendance record of 978,276 persons attending.  The State Fair is also the showcase for a Indiana’s multi-billion dollar agriculture industry.  This year our Afternoons with Amos visit to the Indiana State Fair focused on new attractions at the Fair like the new Glass Barn and the Fairs efforts to educate Hoosier school children.  Especially to increase the number of Hoosier students who to get interested in STEM – Science Technical Engineering and Math studies and degrees.  Our special broadcast also talked about the Fair’s popular Midway and the Indiana company that’s provided the rides, thrills and games for over a quarter century. We talked with this year’s State Fair Queen Mariah Huff and the Fair’s distinguished Executive Director Cindy Hoye about the Fair, the renovations and changes the State Fair has made and lots more.  We also talked with Judge Smith of Judge’s Bar-Be-Que one of the many vendors at the Fair and one of the few minority-owned vendors. The State Fair also educates and we learned about their efforts to encourage more youth to discover careers in science, technology, engineering and math.
