Indianapolis and Marion County has experienced several serious, vicious, violent home invasions in recent weeks.  Crimes that have shocked the community and made many fearful.  IMPD Chief Rick Hite appeared on Afternoons with Amos to give the community tips on how to prevent home invasions.  Chief Hite talked about simple preventive measures including not keeping garage doors open, lowering curtains and window shades and blinds and be observant and aware of your surrounds surroundings near your home and your neighborhood.  Chief Hite said that while overall reports of crime are down, public perception of crime is up because of the recent incidents.  Chief Hite also talked about the efforts police have made in arresting some of those responsible for the recent home invasion spree.  The Chief announced during the interview that an arrest had been made in one of the recent violent home invasions on Spring Mill Road on the northside. Chief Hite also warned that individuals who don’t cooperate with police or give false statements on crimes to police or harbor fugitives or accept stolen merchandise will also be prosecuted.  Chief Hite also talked with Amos and listeners about concerns that police were harassing members of the Nation of Islam for panhandling.  The Chief also talked with listeners about current crime fighting issues.  Click the Arrow for Amos’ Interview with IMPD Chief Rick Hite.
