The Indianapolis Star, which hasn’t been known for a lot of African-American hires, have made two significant ones in recent months.  In the Sports Pages which traditionally haven’t had a lot of African-American writers, reporters and columnists.  The two new additions are Stephen Holder and Candace Buckner.  There have been very few Black male sportswriters for the Indianapolis Star.  And Buckner is breaking barriers as the first Black female sportswriter at the newspaper.  In an exclusive interview on Afternoons with Amos the two talked about their careers and covering Indianapolis’ two marquee sports teams – Colts and Pacers.  Stephen Holder came to the Star from the Tampa Bay Tribune. He’s a graduate of Miami University who also worked for the Miami Herald. Candace Buckner, a graduate of the University of Missouri, is from St. Louis, but had worked for a newspaper in Vancouver Washington, covering the Portland Trail Blazers before coming to the Star. Holder is the Colts Insider and Buckner is the Pacers Insider.  Both sports reporters talked with Amos and listeners about their career before coming to Indianapolis and covering the red hot Pacers and our growing Colts.  In the interview both talked about the scandal in the Miami Dolphins locker room, covering sports in Indy, even on the lack of Blacks in baseball.  Click the Arrow to hear Amos’ Interview with Two Pioneering Indy Black Sportswriters.  Runs 27 Minutes. ©2013 WTLC/Radio One.
