In the aftermath of the strong community outcry in 2012 about a proposal to place a statue of a freed slave in chains on the Indianapolis Cultural Trail, community leaders came together to create a new, more collaborative process. The Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee and The Arts Council of Indianapolis have commissioned artists to create a substantial piece of public art for the Cultural Trail that will reflect the proud and distinct history of the African American community in central Indiana. Five distinct ideas, created by African-Americans have been submitted. You see their designs here.  On Afternoons with Amos, members of the community advisory committee that has helped encourage these new designs talked about the process and encouraged the community to have their say on which the design they feel would be appropriate. Explaining the process and encouraging the community to get involved were committee members Reggie Jones, Jocelyn Tandy-Adande, Toby Miller and Ashley Robinson.
