We have all been there. There is an inexplicable total lapse in energy and desire to complete your daily tasks on the job. It seems to happen at the same time every day while at work. The struggle is real; you have three more hours until you can go home and you just do NOT know how you will survive.

Well, fret no more. Here are four tips to incorporate into your daily routine which may assist in providing optimum work productivity.

1) Have proper lighting.

As many of us have at some point in our career worked in a cubicle, it is easy to slip into a workday trance due to inadequate lighting. One suggestion is to bring in your own office appropriate lamp or clip on lighting to brighten up the work space. Additionally, if possible, request to be located near any areas of natural lighting or take your breaks outside.

2) Reduce the Noise.

Too much banter, outside noises and other distractions within the work area may definitely reduce productivity. Either it is because you want to join in on the loud discussions within the office, or the construction outside your office window is not conducive to your attention span. Find a quiet space to escape in an effort to complete your tasks. I once worked at a law firm and my desk was within a cubicle surrounded by loud talking co-workers. When necessary, I would find an empty conference room to review documents which definitely assisted in my efficiency.

3) Properly Adjust Your Climate.

Unfortunately many of us have no say so when it comes to the temperature within the office. There were many times I could not bring myself to take off my coat and gloves when, for reasons I could not understand, the thermostat was set to 60 degrees in the winter. By bringing my own space heater to use under my desk, I was able to become more comfortable at work, thus providing a better space for me to work.

4) Be Mindful of Colors and Décor.

Did you know that the colors on your office walls can actually affect your mood? Color Therapy is based upon the utilization of specific colors to incite a desired mood. Yellow is known as “stimulating, bright and cozy” whereas red is known for “arousing, fiery and aggressive”. Before decorating, be mindful about how a particular color may ignite your productivity or lack thereof.
