Two outstanding African-American attorneys, each dedicated to serving people are running for the Democratic nomination for Center Township Small Claims Court. Challenger Brenda Roper and incumbent Judge Michelle Smith Scott talked about their qualifications for the job in a special Afternoons with Amos Campaign Tuesday. Roper is an attorney whose had experience working with people. In her interview with Amos and Listeners she talked about why she’s running and what background and experiences she would bring to the Small Claims Court. On one of the big issues in the race, the location of the Small Claims Court, Roper endorsed the court moving to space at the Julia Carson Government Center at Fall Creek and Delaware as opposed to the Court’s current City-County Building location. Judge Michelle Smith Scott is seeking her third term on the bench. On the issue of the court’s location, Judge Scott told Amos and listeners she strongly favors the current Court location. Both Roper and Judge Scott talked about the importance of a Small Claims Court Judge listening and making it easier for individuals to understand the court’s processes. Both candidates endorsed the changes that have been made to the Small Claims Court system in Marion County. Changes which include limiting where plaintiffs and defendants to filing court actions in the township where the action took place.
