Regina Marsh (R) with Ameena Matthews (L)

For several months a broad cross section of community leaders, from elected officials to grassroots leaders along with police officers and ex-offenders met in a series of task force and reaction sessions to develop an Action Plan to help reduce crime and violence in Indianapolis.  Besides drawing on great local ideas, the Task Force talked with folks in Memphis, Tennessee and Minneapolis, Minnesota on anti-violence programs and strategies that have gotten results.  On a special Afternoons with Amos hour, organizers of the Task Force came to the community to explain the plan and how the community can get involved.  Regina Marsh, Executive Director of the Forest Manor Multi-Service Center spearheaded the effort but she had help from a wide spectrum of individuals and organizations.  Marsh appeared on the program along with businesswoman and religious leader Rev. Tammy Butler Robinson who helped compiled the Task Force’s plans and data into an easy to read Action Plan.  To kick off the community effort, the Task Force brought in an expert on dealing with violence at the grassroots level.  Appearing on the broadcast was Ameena Matthews, Senior Violence Interrupter with the Chicago Cease Fire Project.  That’s a grassroots group that works on the streets of Chicago with gang members and former gang members and young adults and youth to help turn the tide away from violence.  Click the Link to Download the Task Force Plan.  CITYWIDE CRIME PREVENTION & REDUCTION PLAN    Click the Arrow to Hear this Special Afternoons with Amos Hour as Community Folks Come Together to Stop Violence.
