Indiana First Lady Karen Pence made her first appearance on Afternoons with Amos. In an extended, intimate revealing interview, the wife of Governor Mike Pence talked about her priorities as First Lady, which includes assisting with as a Bicentennial Ambassador for Indiana’s upcoming Bicentennial Celebration and more important her creation The Indiana First Lady’s Charitable Foundation. Mrs. Pence said the purpose of the Foundation is to support and recognize communities and organizations in Indiana that promote the well-being of Hoosier children and their families. Each year the Foundation will host a major fundraising luncheon to raise funds for a worthy Indiana charity. The first year’s effort will benefit the Riley Children’s Hospital’s Art Therapy Initiative. A classroom teacher for over 25 years, Mrs. Pence talked about her educational career and suggested that the best way parents and grandparents can help their children with their school work is by reading to their children, especially when they’re young. Karen Pence talked about why she took her time before deciding what her priorities would be as First Lady and the advice she received from previous Indiana First Ladies as she assumed the role. An artist herself as well as a trained pilot, Karen Pence talked about the adjustments she and her family made to the role of being the wife and family of a Governor. Family and faith are very important to Karen Pence and the rest of the Pence family and she talked about it her interview with Amos. The First Lady also shared with Afternoons with Amos listeners the experience she and Governor Pence and being seated next to First Lady Michelle Obama at a White Dinner for the nation’s Governors back in February.
