While police are investigating the city’s latest shooting, other’s are advancing efforts to step up crime prevention.
Police are investigating a shooting on the northeast side of the city. Authorities report ten shooting incidents in a 72-hour period. The most recent of which happened Monday. An unidentified elderly man was wounded with non life-threatening injuries to his legs in the area of 40th Street and College Avenue. Police ask anyone with information to call 317-262-TIPS.
Anti-violence groups in Indianapolis are stepping up efforts to stop violence. Police say a new prevention program debuted on Monday. The goal is to teach young people alternatives to gangs and criminal activities. As a part of the plan, McGruff the Crime Dog will get an update and be reintroduced as a part of the crime-fighting team.
TUESDAY NIGHT MEETING: To curb crime and the rising homicide rate, the next in the series of town hall “Community Conversation” meetings on crime prevention will be held tonight. Join IMPD, Public Safety Director, Troy Rigg, Indianapolis City-County Council President, Maggie Lewis and other leaders at Light of the World Christian Church, 4646 North Michigan Road. The program begins at 6 p.m.
