andre carson newRunning for a fourth term in Congress, Rep.Andre Carson, a candidates for the Democratic nomination for 7th District Congress appeared on Afternoons with Amos to take questions about his campaign from Amos and more importantly from listeners. Rep. Carson talked issues ranging from helping veterans, Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, jobs, the Federal deficit and spending.  Carson blasted the budget approved by the Republican House Majority instigated by Rep. Paul Ryan. Carson blasted the fact that Ryan visited Indianapolis last week but endorsed a budget tat would hurt Indianapolis residents, especially working folks.  Carson also covered issues ranging from the Keystone Pipeline, allowing felons who’ve changed to have firearms to protect themselves and their property. Rep. Carson even discussed issues a Congressman doesn’t handle, like issues of city and state government. Carson was firm over opponents attacks of his not being visible and accessible in the community explaining that he returns home nearly every weekend and tries to be in Indianapolis as much as possible but the Congress’ schedule of votes is sometimes unpredictable.  Carson also pushed back on the idea that there hasn’t been a strong focus on civil rights enforcement in Indianapolis.

Rep. Andre Carson extends his hand to his fierce opponent Rev. Muoja Ajabu (R)

Several listeners took strong exception to one of Carson’s opponents attacks using the memory of Carson’s grandmother the late Rep. Julia Carson. Carson didn’t directly respond to the opponent, but remained focused on doing his job for the residents of the 7th District.  But after the interview ended, of Carson’s opponents, Rev. Muoja Ajabu tried to confront Carson outside the AM1310 Offices. In a positive spirit in the best traditions of Judeo/Christian/Islamic tradition of fair play, Carson greeted Ajabu with a smile and his hand outstretched. The two exchanged hugs as well.
