Report: Taxpayers Footing Rehab Bill for ‘Affluenza’ Teen

Ethan Couch, the Texas teen whose deadly drunk driving was excused by a lenient judge because of “affluenza,” is serving his time in rehab on mostly taxpayers’ money, RadarOnline reports. According to RadarOnline, it is largely the public who will be responsible for the now 17-year-old’s $438,000-per-year rehab treatment. Read more.

Police Find Drugs Hidden In Man’s Belly Button

North Carolina authorities arrested a man following a traffic stop after they found drugs in his car and in his belly button. Greenville police discovered 150 bags of heroin in Randall Streeter’s vehicle, as well as 40 bags of heroin and crack cocaine on him. Officials say they also found Percocet pills in his naval. Police told WITN he is being held on $1,000,000 secured bond. Read more.

1 In 10 Still Support Discrimination Against African-Americans On Religious Grounds

One in 10 Americans believe small business owners should be free to refuse to serve or do business with African-Americans on religious grounds, according to a new poll.  A survey released this week by the Public Religion Research Institute finds that strong majorities of Americans reject the idea that businesses should be legally allowed to refuse to serve either African-American, Jewish, gays and lesbians, or atheists, but a small portion of the country still believes you should be able to.  Read more.

Yaya DaCosta Cast As Whitney Houston In Angela Bassett’s Lifetime Movie

Yaya DaCosta will play legendary singer Whitney Houston in Lifetime’s biopic, due out in 2015, TVLine reported. DaCosta made her small-screen debut on “America’s Next Top Model” Cycle 3, but has since appeared in “All My Children,” Ugly Betty,” House” and “Lee Daniels’ The Butler.” In the Lifetime movie, she’ll play Houston as she deals with her volatile relationship with Bobby Brown and her early success in the music industry. Read more.

Audra McDonald Wins Her Sixth Tony Award For Portrayal Of Billie Holiday

Audra McDonald has become the Tony Awards’ most decorated actress. The singer and actress on Sunday won her sixth Tony for portraying Billie Holiday in “Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill,” putting her ahead of five-time winners Angela Lansbury and the late Julie Harris for the most competitive wins by an actress. The latest win — for best lead actress in a play — also makes McDonald the first grand-slam performance winner. She previously won as best featured actress in a play (“A Raisin in the Sun” and “Master Class”), best lead actress in a musical (“The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess”) and best featured actress in a musical (“Ragtime” and “Carousel”).
