Maya Angelou’s loss  greatly felt by many  and the family expresses thanks.

Here is their special message:

In the early days after Maya Angelou’s transition, the Angelou Johnson Family received food and flowers. We continue to receive, donations for charities, cards, letters, phone calls of condolences as well as proclamations from U.S. officials and officials and citizens internationally. We deeply appreciate your condolences and thank you for your expressions of love and generosity. We have decided to continue Maya Angelou’s official facebook page and will keep you posted with quotes as well as upcoming events and information. Again, thank you for your heartfelt expressions.

During her memorial Michelle Obama,  Bill Clinton, and Oprah Winfrey all spoke at the Wake Forest University service, which is where Angelou had taught as a professor since 1982. Obama recalled meeting her for the first time at a campaign rally in 2008. Clinton, for his part, spoke of what she gave back to the world.

“She called our attention in thousands of ways to her belief that life is a gift manifested in each new day,” he said of Angelou. “She called our attention to the fact that things that really mattered—dignity, work, love and kindness—are things that we can all share and don’t cost a thing…”

Yesterday, the North Carolina House has voted to honor the life and memory of author, poet and teacher Maya Angelou. House members unanimously approved a resolution Tuesday that remembers Angelou as an extraordinary woman and hails her lasting legacy.
