Though the plight of more than 200 abducted Nigerian girls has seemed to disappear from headlines and the hashtag, ‘#BringBackOurGirls,’ is losing steam, the fate of most of these girls still hangs in the balance. This is a sobering thought as most Americans celebrate independence and many African-American women prep for a weekend of grilling.

Indianapolis has not forgotten. Nigerians in Diaspora Organization-Indiana Chapter (NIDO-Indiana) is hosting a prayer vigil in downtown Indy on Monument Circle during the Fourth of July weekend. On Saturday, July 5 at 1 p.m., organizers are inviting people in Indy to come and pray for the safe return of these school girls who were kidnapped in mid-April from their school in northern Nigeria. They were taken by extremist militant group Boko Haram. Boko Haram is accused of more kidnappings and killings since the brazen and now infamous mid-April abduction.
