It’s true!  Parents can make a different in the school their children and grandchildren attend.  This truism is being provided right now at a couple of Indianapolis Public Schools.

In an Afternoons with Amos interviews, parents involved in a “Parents University” run by the Stand for Children organization talked about their efforts in getting IPS School 93 to utilize a successful IPS program that turned around another IPS School 99. Appearing on Afternoons with Amos was Ashley Thomas, a parent at George Fisher School 93 which just convinced the IPS School Board and Supt. Dr. Louis Ferebee to OK Project Restore, an innovative grassroots school turnaround program in the eastside school.

Project Restore was created by teachers at School 99 Arlington Woods which helped to take that school to the top academically.  A school that serves a neighborhoods with some of the highest unemployment and poverty in Indianapolis.  Appearing with Thomas was King Cobbs, a parent at School 99 and Ashley Thomas with Stand for Children and Indiana Stand for Children Director Justin Ohlemiller.  Click the Media Player to Hear the Afternoons with Amos Interview to Hear How Parents Stood Up, Worked To Improve Their Children’s Schools.
