Afternoons with Amos talked with Warren Township Superintendent Dr. Dena Cushenberry on the first day of of school an talked about the first day and a number of her expectations for the new school year.  Dr. Cushenberry talked about how Warren Township’s teachers are preparing for the new, more rigorous 2015 ISTEP tests next Spring.  She said Warren students had already been taught the new state standards before they were revised a couple of months ago.  She feels they’re ready for the changes, but Dr. Cushenberry acknowledged that the standards and the new ISTEP test will be harder and that initially student and school scores may suffer.  Dr. Cushenberry was high on Warren Township being a Race to the Top School.  Last year the district received a $28.5 million dollar federal grant from the Department of Education to help enhance education in the district through additional technology and personalized learning to help Warren students become college and career ready.  Dr. Cushenberry also talked with Amos and listeners about the districts new “Culturally-Responsive Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports team” or CR-PBIS, which is helping the district develop a set of expectations for students behavior.
