An energized and animated Joe Hogsett talked passionately about the need for better leadership in Indianapolis as he opened the door wide for an expected run for Indianapolis Mayor next year.  In an live in-depth Afternoons with Amos interview, Hogsett explained why he left the position as US Attorney to return to private life and begin the start of a mayoral campaign.  Hogsett confirmed that he will be filing paper work for an Exploratory Mayoral Campaign Committee. Hogsett obviously made the city/county’s rising crime the main reason he changed his mind about staying in the US Attorney’s office.  Hogsett felt he could make more of a difference against crime and making Indy a safer city by being involved in city/county affairs.  Hogsett talked directly about the need for improved leadership and having a Mayor that talks to and engages all sectors of the community.  In the interview Amos brought up public concern with wasteful spending by Mayor Ballard from the cricket field, to unneeded bike lanes, the ROC Center and more.  Then Amos said another example of wasteful spending was the controversy brought to light in an Indianapolis Star story about the City spending $750,000 with Hogsett’s new employer, the Bose McKinney Evans law firm, for PR work connected with a proposed Criminal Justice Center, Hogsett while saying he didn’t know that much about the contract, was forceful talking about the importance of government contract transparency and openness. Hogsett also commented on Mayor Ballard’s anti-crime and pre-school proposals and while he praised the Mayor for finally showing some leadership on the issue, he felt that Indianapolis should be doing much more.  Hogsett told Amos and listeners that he plans to be out in the community during the next few months doing more “doing more listening” to hear from Indianapolis residents on issues that concern them.  Click the Media Player to Hear Amos’ Interview with potential Mayoral Candidate Joe Hogsett.
