Former Lawrence North Basketball star and current NBA player Greg Oden has been taken into custody in Lawrence Thursday morning and booked at the Marion County Jail on two preliminary charges of misdemeanor battery, according to WTHR-TV. Oden is a free agent who played most recently for the Miami Heat where he had been released. The Clippers apparently had plans to bring him in for a workout. This is a developing story. Indianapolis police are investigating an apparent homicide on the city’s northeast side. They say a man was found shot dead on the Roosevelt and Valley Avenues –that’s near Keystone and Rural around 4 o’clock Thursday morning. The victim is described as a black male. He appeared to be shot several times. Call 317-262-TIPS if you have any information on the city’s latest homicide.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is hosting their annual Downtown District Community Day. Festivities kick off Thursday morning at 11 a.m. on Georgia Street between Illinois and Meridian Streets. Here’s some of the fun. IMPD will host a celebrity doughnut eating contest, Colts and Pacers cheerleaders, a police vs. fire department BBQ Cook-off, exhibits plus free food from over 23 restaurants.

Loretta Rush is now the state’s first female Supreme Court chief justice. She was chosen Wednesday to replace Brent Dickson, who announced in June he’s stepping down. Rush is a former Tippecanoe County judge and was appointed to the Indiana Supreme Court by Governor Mitch Daniels in 2012.

We now have the arrangements for the home going services of a radio and gospel industry legend. The home going for Al “The Bishop” Hobbs gets underway next Friday, August 15. Hobbs’ viewing is from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., quarter note 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and a gospel musical gets underway at 7 p.m. It’s expected to conclude at 11 p.m. On Saturday, August 16, Hobbs’ viewing continues for two hours beginning at 8 a.m. with funeral and life celebration services beginning at 10 a.m. All services will take place at Christ Church Apostolic, 6601 Grandview Drive in Indy.

At least 58 Fortune 1000 companies are joining forces with the Black Data Processing Associates (BDPA) who are in Indy for their annual convention. This two-day Fortune 1000 Career Fair will be Friday, August 8 and Saturday, August 9 at the JW Marriott downtown Indianapolis. The BDPA is the premier organization for African-American professionals and students in the information technology industry. They train and advocate for students in the fields of STEM–science, technology, engineering and math. The job fair is open to the public and runs on Friday from Noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Republican National Committee opens its summer meeting in Chicago Thursday. The RNC is expected to ratify Cleveland as the location of the 2016 presidential convention. Former Vice President Vice President Dick Cheney, Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan, and Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker are expected to speak.

A lot of job hunters appear to be lying on their resumes. A new Harris Poll new on Thursday morning says close to 60-percent of hiring managers have found lies in the resumes they’ve looked at lately. According to the survey, job candidates in financial services are the biggest liars, while retail employees tend to lie the least.

Go Colts! The Indianapolis Colts are on the road Thursday for their first pre-season game. They take on the Jets at MetLife Stadium at 7 p.m.
