ANGRY Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry Blasts Mayor Ballard For Cutting Budget For NO Reason

terry curry newMarion County Prosecutor Terry Curry is angry.  But this time it’s not just at those who break the law.  Prosecutor Curry’s angry over Mayor Greg Ballard and City Controller Jason Dudich arbitrarily cutting the Prosecutor’s 2015 proposed budget to less than the Prosecutor spent in 2013 and this year.  Appearing on Afternoons with Amos, the Prosecutor talked about that in this current year budget cuts by the Controller and Mayor forced him, in a time when crime and prosecutors are up, to reduce his staff by three Deputy Prosecutors and two assistants.  Curry is concerned that when the Mayor introduced his anti crime plan last month he talked about raising $10 million more in revenue for the courts, prosecutor and public defender.  But all three of those county agencies saw their budgets cut from the current year’s spending for next year. When asked why the Mayor and Controller seemed to pick on his budget for sharp reductions, Curry speculated that his lack of enthusiasm for the proposed Marion County Justice Center could be the reason.  The proposal to build a new Marion County Jail along with new building for the Criminal Courts would actually increase the Prosecutor’s budget because he’d have to maintain separate facilities for prosecutors who defend civil case and child support cases as well as criminal cases.  Also in the Afternoons with Amos interview, Curry talked about his decision to seek the death penalty in the murder of IMPD Officer Perry Renn and the upcoming expensive Richmond Hill bombing trial that will be tried outside Indianapolis.  Click the Media Player to Hear the Afternoons with Amos Interview with an Irritated Prosecutor Terry Curry Over Unwarranted Budget Cuts.
