St. Rep & Mayor candidate Ed DeLaney in Afternoons with Amos studio
In his first interview on Afternoons with Amos, State Representative Ed DeLaney, who is one of three running for the Democratic nomination for Indianapolis Mayor, came out swinging against Mayor Greg Ballard’s proposals to expand preschool and his plan to hire more police. DeLaney, a three term state representative who surprisingly is unopposed (no Republican filed to run against him in the northside District 86), isn’t opposed to expanding preschool or to putting more cops on the street. But DeLaney blasted Ballard’s proposals. On preschool DeLaney sides with Democrats and others who are against eliminating the local homestead tax credit. He says that expanding preschool is really a state responsibility and that the Legislature should deal with it. On adding more police, DeLaney criticized the Mayor for allowing the police department to fall far short of officers during his administration. DeLaney said Indianapolis has fewer cops on the street today than when Ballard took office in January 2008. DeLaney criticized the Mayor for a lack of vision, agreeing that compared to past Indianapolis Mayors going back as far as fifty years, Ballard is the first to offer Indy residents no real vision of where this city needs to go.
