IN BREAKING NEWS…  A past president of Butler University is dead. According to a statement released by Ursinus College, Dr. Bobby Fong, who was currently serving as their president died early this Monday morning of natural causes.  The college posted the following to their Instagram account, “For the past three years, Dr. Fong has been a thoughtful leader of our community. He cared deeply for our students and was honored to have led an institution that encouraged them to live purposefully. This was always a great source of pride for him.”  Current Butler University President, James Danko, Tweeted “Today we mourn the loss of a truly great man & great @butleru president. Our thoughts & prayers are with the family of .”

Homicide detectives with the Indianapolis Metro Police Department are still investigating what appears to be a robbery Monday morning where one man has been shot and killed on the city’s west side. This happened just before 6:30 this morning in the 500 block of King Avenue near Michigan and Belmont near Chase Bank. Police have the shooter in custody and are continuing to question him to sort out the details about the incident, including the crash of a pick-up truck they were both in that slammed into the side of a Kroger. This investigation continues.

Funeral arrangements are underway for a Merrillville police officer fatally shot on Friday. Doctors removed Nickolaus Schultz, 24, from life support Sunday afternoon. Police say he was shot by a suspect with body armor while responding to a call about an evicted tenant. He’d just graduated from Franklin College last year.

A veteran officer with IMPD is said to be seeking emotional and mental health treatment after barricading himself inside his house. Officers were called on Sunday morning to a home on Amber Creek Lane on a report of a suicidal person and after several unsuccessful attempts to make contact, they called in the SWAT team. The standoff lasted several hours, but eventually came to a peaceful end.

Indiana doctors are preparing to deal with the rare respiratory virus that’s quickly spreading through hundreds of children in the Midwest.  They say they don’t know what’s caused the outbreak, and it’s extremely dangerous for children with asthma. There are no documented cases here in the state yet. But the CDC says it’s heard from ten states about outbreaks. There are no vaccines or special treatments for this virus.

Now that students are back in class, it’s time for parents to make sure that homework is getting done and help has arrived. Free math and science homework help is available to students across the state. The Rose-Hulman Homework Hotline is open from 7 to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday for students in grades six through 12.  The number to call is 877-ASK-ROSE.

The word out of Buckingham Palace this morning is that a new Royal is on the way and a princess is struggling again with extreme morning sickness. Yes Prince William and his wife Kate are expecting baby number two and little Prince George will become a big brother. He just had his first birthday was in July.

The Indianapolis Colts dropped their season opener to Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos in Mile High Stadium Sunday night, 31 to 24. The Colts will have a chance to get a win on September 15 when they take on the Eagles at Lucas Oil Stadium.
