Amos taping interview with UNCF CEO Dr. Michael Lomax (R)

In an exclusive Afternoons with Amos interview, the President and CEO of UNCF (United Negro College Fund) talked with Amos about a number of key issues impacting the education of African-Americans.  In the interview Lomax talked with Amos about the financial health and vitality of HBCU’s and the impact of cutbacks (now rescinded) in the Federal Parent Plus loan program.  Dr. Lomax talked about a subject he’s passionate about; the lack of adequate preparation of Black high school students for college and the high amount of remediation that must be done.  Lomax also discussed the impact of more rigor and standards in schools today, especially the impact of the Common Core curriculum. In the interview, Amos discussed with Lomax the controversy and criticism of some in the Black community of the major contribution UNCF received from the businessmen known as the Koch Brothers; two men who have bitterly fought President Barack Obama’s agenda.  Lomax directly addressed community concerns over that donation in the interview as for decades Indianapolis has been a strong supporter of UNCF.  Not just corporations and foundations in Indianapolis, but African-American Greek organizations, churches and others. First through the Lou Rawls Parade of Stars Telethon and recently through the annual UNCF Masked Ball fundraisers.
