Although African Americans make up just 13 percent of the U.S. population, we account for 33 percent of the missing in the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s database. Cases involving African Americans also tend to receive less media coverage than missing Whites, with missing men of color getting even less attention.

NewsOne has partnered with the Black and Missing Foundation to focus on the crisis of missing African Americans.

To be a part of the solution, NewsOne will profile a missing person weekly and provide tips about how to keep your loved ones safe and what to do if someone goes missing.

Circumstances of Disappearance: Valentine failed to show up for a Bible study and no one has heard from her since. Fayetteville, N.C. Police Officer Antoine Kincade told NewsOne in an interview that there is no new information in the case.

“Detectives are working around the clock and trying to track down every lead,” said Officer Kincade, the public information officer for Fayetteville Police. “In cases like this the detectives build a timeline to trace the steps in that person’s day.”

Video at Valentine’s apartment complex is being examined.

“All of that information is being sieved with a fine tooth comb to see if it gives any clues,” said Officer Kincade.

There have been no signs of foul play thus far. That’s why Valentine’s case is so perplexing.

“The video shows nothing around the time of her disappearance, only comings and goings. That area is not known for violence or kidnappings,” said Officer Kincade.

“This is a residential area, a military town of about 210,000 folks. You have lots of military and their family integrated with lots of civilians. People are always home and out and about,” he added.

Police urge anyone with any information about the case to reach out to Fayetteville Police, even if they do so anonymously through Crimestoppers.
