It was announced earlier this week that tennis great, Serena Williams, was named Sports Illustrated’s Sportsperson of the Year.  Sister, Venus, presented Serena with the honor.  Williams is the first woman in 32 years, and the first ever African-American woman to win the award.

Williams stated in her acceptance speech, “For all the ladies out there, yes we can do it. My hope by winning this award [is that I] can inspire many, many, many more women … to stand right here on this podium and accept another ‘Sportsperson of the Year,’ so yes ladies it can be done.”

Williams also addressed hardships she had to overcome to get to where she is today.  Watch Williams’ acceptance speech below!
