As voters head to the early voting poll on this last day of early voting Monday or when the polls open Tuesday on Election Day, one of the issues that they’ll have to address on their ballot is the Marion County Transit Plan Referendum. One organization is in full support of the referendum because of improved transportation’s impact on senior citizens and others in this community. They are the AARP. Mandla Moyo, Community Engagement Director of the AARP, which represents the interests of Americans over the age of 50 in this nation, joined WTLC News’ Kim Wells, who also hosts “Access Indy with Kim Wells” at the Julia Carson Transit Center in downtown Indianapolis (across from the early voting polls) to discuss his organization’s perspective on public transportation here in Indy.

Early voting ends at Noon (Eastern) on Monday at the Marion County Clerk’s office downtown on the first floor of the City-County Building at Washington and Delaware Streets.

City-County Council Special Ordinance #1, 2016: Referendum for Transit Funding
Shall Marion County have the ability to impose a county economic development income tax rate, not to exceed a rate of 0.25%, to pay for improving or establishing public transportation service in the county through a public transportation project that will create a connected network of buses and rapid transit lines; increase service frequency; extend operational hours; and implement three new rapid transit lines?
