After a heated and emotional meeting at the Walker Theater, artist Fred Wilson calmly and patiently explained his controversial sculpture design for the Indianapolis Cultural Trail on Afternoons with Amos. For an hour Wilson, the New York-based, African-American artist explained his E Pluribus Unum (Out of Many, One) sculpture which depicts the image of the slave from the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument as a free man in an “upright, empowered position as a 21st Century person of color, holding a flag representing the African Diaspora”.
