For the second straight year, Afternoons with Amos, the popular weekday talk show on WTLC-AM1310, was named Outstanding Special Interest Program at the 23rd Annual Indiana Broadcasters Association Spectrum Awards. The Spectrum Awards annually recognizes the best efforts in news, entertainment and community service programs on Indiana’s radio and television stations.

Afternoons with Amos received its second Spectrum Award for the program’s body of the work the past twelve months. This included coverage of the brutal beating by Indianapolis Police of an African-American teen which began with a live call from the teen’s family to the program. In the wake of the incident, Afternoons with Amos confronted Indianapolis officials, elected officials and community leaders from Mayor Greg Ballard, Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels, and activist Rev. Al Sharpton asking for answers.

Afternoons with Amos tried to create dialogue between police and community with a live two hour live special from the Indianapolis Police Department Training Academy, and a special program with ACLU execs and police explaining what one does when stopped by police. Meanwhile, Afternoons with Amos covered other pressing issues with live interviews and town halls with candidates in the 2010 elections; the first live broadcast from inside an Indiana Prison facility, live broadcasts outside Indiana’s Legislative chambers and the first live broadcast inside the Indianapolis Mayor’s Office.

We’re honored that Afternoons with Amos has again been honored with Indiana’s highest broadcasting award for broadcasting excellence”.

Afternoons with Amos is the seven year old weekday talk show airing on WTLC-AM which is the market and state’s only weekday talk show focusing on issues progressive-oriented talk show focusing on issues of importance to Indianapolis’ African-American community. The program is the third most listened to radio talk show in the Indianapolis market. And is among the highest rated talk show among African-Americans; garnering a 16.6% share of Black listening in the Indianapolis market during afternoons.

A Member of the Indiana Broadcasters Hall of Fame, Amos Brown has earned a slew of top broadcasting, civic and community awards during his over thirty-five year career in Indianapolis with WTLC.
