REACH Media Inc. today announced that Grammy nominated Gospel Artist, James Fortune, will host an inspirational broadcast radio show beginning Tuesday, May 28th from 7p-11p Eastern Time on Praise 1300; and host The Spirit Top 15 Inspirational Countdown every weekend. The shows will feature gospel and inspirational music along with Fortune’s special style of interviews and insights that are meant to motivate and engage.

About being on air Fortune exclaims, “I look forward to sharing an uplifting journey of music, spiritual encouragement and more with listeners on the evening drive, and feel blessed to join you for many lively evenings in store!”

“James is an already proven commodity for us. We always have requests for James to come back on the airwaves after doing on air stints in either mornings or evenings,” Gary Bernstein, Senior Vice President of Programming, REACH Media Inc. explains. “He is totally focused on making this next chapter in his life a memorable one for all our listeners!”

James Fortune is a two-time Grammy Award-nominated record setting Gospel artist, songwriter and producer. James’ song I Trust You became the longest running #1 hit single of any genre at 29 weeks. His accolades in include being a three-time Stellar Award winner, six-time ASCAP award winning songwriter, and President and CEO of FIYAWORLD Music.

According to Elroy Smith, Inspiration Format Director for Radio One, “After James Fortune filled in for Yolanda Adams while she was on vacation, I couldn’t figure out why James was such a natural at this radio thing until he shared with me that he studied communications while in college. He will bring a warm, engaging and a compelling presentation to the airwaves. This is a very exciting time for his fans to hear James do a style of radio that they will fall in love with.”

Fortune will be broadcasting on twenty nine stations affiliated with REACH Media Inc. programing.

Carol Burnett

“I can’t believe I’m getting a humor prize from the Kennedy Center,” Burnett said in a statement. “It’s almost impossible to be funnier than the people in Washington.”

Kennedy Center Chairman David Rubenstein praised Burnett’s ability to make audiences laugh over many decades.

“From her television program and appearances, as well as her performances on Broadway and in film, Carol Burnett has entertained generations of fans with her vibrant wit and hilarious characters,” Rubenstein said in a statement.

Other recent winners of the prize include Ellen DeGeneres, Will Ferrell, and Tina Fey. The award was first given out in 1998 and is often bestowed on an entertainer who has worked as both an actor and a writer. Fey is currently the youngest honoree ever.

During the ceremony, the winner is generally honored with video segments of his or her past work and ribbings from others in the business.

Burnett came to the public’s attention when she starred in the 1959 Broadway production of the musical “Once Upon a Mattress” and is best-known for her CBS sketch program “The Carol Burnett Show,” which ran from 1967 to 1978. Her film credits include “Annie,” “Noises Off,” and “Horton Hears a Who!” She is also behind a memoir published this year, “Carrie and Me,” as well as two other autobiographical works, “One More Time” and “This Time Together.”

Children being pulled from rubble. Homes destroyed. Schools flattened.

It’s a disaster zone that sits hundreds of miles away from Indiana. But some wonder whether the same thing could happen to Hoosiers. And if it did, what we would do.

Authorities and other agencies have plans to tackle such disasters. But preparations can only go so far — much of the rescue process starts with gathering information on where the worst destruction is, how many people are injured and what kind of problems rescuers would face.

“We’re going to need to prioritize things as they come along,” said Elia James, spokeswoman for the Indianapolis Division of Homeland Security. “Because if we set our priorities ahead of the game, and those priorities are not where the biggest needs are, then we’re kind of setting ourselves up for failure.”

The biggest priorities, James said, are saving lives, protecting the environment and preserving property. Authorities also have a checklist of things to do, such as determining if a building is structurally sound and identifying triage officers at a scene.

Of course, the rescuers themselves are sometimes victims of disasters.

In Moore, Okla., for example, a hospital was struck by Monday’s tornado, but most doctors and patients inside survived unharmed.

In Indianapolis, emergency responders prepare for such a direct hit.

When a tornado strikes a hospital, “you have two problems,” said Chad Priest, CEO of the MESH Coalition. It’s a nonprofit that helps train emergency responders to respond to disasters. “You have all the patients that are there that are now victims of whatever the event is, but you also lose a community resource.”

To respond, he said, emergency responders would work together to send patients to other hospitals in the city, without overwhelming them. That process could take hours, depending on the size of the hospital.

It’s a last-resort decision, Priestsaid.

“The goal is to only evacuate a hospital when it’s absolutely necessary,” he said.

Patients could be transported by bus or ambulance, depending on the severity of their injuries.

And, of course, emergency responders train for what could be most important: keeping their heads in a tense situation.

In Oklahoma, the death toll stood at more than 20 people Tuesday, revised from an earlier and much higher estimate Monday.

NFL fans were celebrating Tuesday in Northern California and Texas, after the NFL named San Francisco as the host city for the 2016 Super Bowl and Houston the host city for the 2017 game.

It’s been slightly more than a year since Indianapolis hosted Super Bowl 46, but in a year from now, the city will likely be making a bid for another. Last July, the Indiana Sports Corp. announced that it would consider a bid for 2018, and that sentiment has only grown stronger.

‪”We’ve had a lot of outreach, even since July, from business and volunteers and so forth, encouraging us to go forward,” said Allison Melangton, Indiana Sports Corp. president. “So I don’t think there’s anything jumping out at me that say that we wouldn’t.”

“We had a really great time,” said Dana Realey, a former Super Bowl volunteer.

Realey is among the volunteers who are excited to see another bid. She worked in the NFL experience during Super Bowl 46, and said she’d do so again in a heartbeat.

“I’d love to see it back here in Indianapolis,” Realey said. “I thought they did a great job. The city was very well prepared for it.”

The Indiana Sports Corp. already knows it will have to prepare to compete with New Orleans and Denver in 2018.
During a news conference Tuesday, Melangton said Denver’s bid will likely be influenced by next year’s Super Bowl in New Jersey because both have outdoor stadiums in cold climates. As for New Orleans, she said the city will likely focus its pitch on the party atmosphere related to Mardi Gras, while Indianapolis will again focus on a community and family atmosphere.

‪”So I think they are two completely different things and that will be apparent to the NFL,” Melangton said.

It’s unclear whether 2018 will be too soon to see competition from new stadiums planned for Minneapolis and Atlanta, but with bids likely from Miami and Dallas, Melangton said they’ll be ready for anything.

‪”In the end it’s hard to say how the vote is going to go, but I believe that, if we go forward, we will submit a very compelling bid that will be worth serious consideration,” Melangton said.

If Indy gets the nod again, Dana believes the volunteers will be ready.

“There were a lot of people that were here to work and have fun and I think they’d come out in droves again,” Realey said.

The Indianapolis committee will officially decided whether to submit a 2018 Super Bowl bid in June. The bid process begins in August. The NFL narrows the list of cities in October, and the league announces the 2018 host city in May of next year.

One of the proudest moments of Melvin Cox’s (pictured right) life would have been to see his daughter graduate with honors from the prestigious Spelman College in Atlanta. Yet, the potential memory of his daughter’s cap and gown moment was allegedly robbed from him, when he — and other parents — reportedly arrived at the school’s graduation ceremony late and were therefore locked out of the event, according to WSBTV.

Talking with WSBTV about missing his daughter’s graduation, which took place on Sunday at 3 p.m. sharp, Cox said, “It is unacceptable, and it’s something that needs to be addressed today.” According to the disturbed Dad, the event’s doors were locked by security guards at 2:30 p.m.

Cox flew in from Oakland, Calif., and spent more than $1,400 in airfare and accommodations to attend the event. When he and other parents of the graduating class asked to be allowed entry in to the ceremony, security guards reportedly refused — allegedly using verbal threats.

Cox, along with the other parents who were locked out, are incensed about the school’s seemingly unreasonable policy and are demanding that the college reassess it, “To simply turn us away, to at one point call the Sheriff’s Department, and to threaten us with arrests, I mean it’s just not right,” Cox told WSBTV.

Cox, who admits that he and his daughter cannot even bring up the graduation without becoming emotional, added, “One of the memories of the day would be a Mother from New York, I believe, with tears welled up in her eyes just standing there in the rain, not believing this was happening to her and her family.”

Spelman responded to the accusations by the miffed parents, saying:

There are guidelines and protocols in place as safety measures, including no access to the facility after a certain time, and no exit and re-entry. These guidelines and protocols are conveyed in a series of communications, beginning in the fall semester of the academic year and throughout the spring semester, leading up to Commencement.

According to Cox, he has received letters from the academic institution but no specific info was relayed to him with regards to the graduation ceremony and any conditions that he should have been mindful of.  “There is no excuse because something very precious, very near to me has been stolen from me,” he laments.

Cox is so upset with the school that he has vowed to not give them another red cent in financial support.

Meanwhile, Cox says that he will write Spelman a “stern letter” to discuss his dismay with regards to the unfortunate turn-of events that occurred during his daughter’s graduation ceremony that he was forced to miss.
