Verity Gospel recording artist John P. Kee is on a mission.

“I think I have taken more guns off the streets than the police department,” said the Pastor of New Life Community Church in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The church, named after his popular recording choir, is extremely active in street ministry in his hometown. Those familiar with his stellar career know his testimony about being a former drug dealer and how God delivered him. Recently, Kee has been on a mission to take his street ministry to other cities that are hurting with crime as well as the economy.

“I have been doing a major gun drive and I give away gift cards and gas cards. I received so many guns it didn’t make sense,” said Kee. “I went to Detroit and Rock Hill, South Carolina due to the boom in crime.”

He said some major preachers were unwilling to work with him but he was not deterred. “I called pastors and told them I wanted to come and give money away, and many didn’t call me back,” Kee said.

The Stellar Award-winning and Grammy-nominated recording artist has given free concerts to standing room only crowds at churches and auditoriums.

“Detroit was good for me. If I didn’t sell records anywhere…I sold them in Detroit and I’ve got to be a blessing. I went to Detroit and paid mortgages. It was amazing. We went to Second Ebenezer Church,” said Kee.

Letters of appreciation from attendees have been steady flowing since Kee blessed the cities.

Recently, Kee also stopped by Salem Baptist Church and blessed the audience and church as well.

“I wanted to come to Chicago to do the same thing. Chicago has been good to me as well,” said Kee, who is featured on Fred Hammond’s hot single, “They that Wait.” Kee said he is in the studio working on his next project which is to be released soon.
