Oprah Winfrey is known as the Queen of Daytime TV, but in May, she lost her crown to one fiery Judge Judy Sheindlin.

In a victory for courtroom television, “Judge Judy” soared past “The Oprah Winfrey Show” during the May “sweeps” ratings period, ranking first in daytime television. The new rankings represent the ninth time in eleven weeks that Sheindlin has bested Winfrey in rankings.

“Judy” averaged 6.4 million viewers during sweeps, whereas “Oprah” pulled in an average of 6.2 million. “Judy’s” viewership is on the up, with an average gain of 637,000 viewers since last year, while “Oprah” saw a net loss of 602,000.

This isn’t to say that it’s all bad for Winfrey – she still finished last month as the second-most-watched show in daytime television. After 25 seasons, “Oprah” will end its run in September 2011, when Winfrey will move own to her Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).
