Iowa — The loudest applause at this week’s Tea Party Convention for 2012 candidates was once again held for black conservative Herman Cain.

While many in the party aren’t taking his candidacy seriously, Cain has been in Iowa since 2009 making inroads with the community.

This weekend, he started a firestorm by saying he’s been called a “racist” for not supporting President Obama, and that he will not appoint any Muslims in his cabinet if elected.

“I will not. And here’s why. There is this creeping attempt, this attempt, to gradually ease Sharia law and the Muslim faith into our government,” Cain said. “It does not belong in our government. This is what happened to Europe. And little by little, to try to be politically correct, they made this little change. They made this little change. And now they’ve got a social problem that they don’t know what to do with hardly.”
