Los Angeles, California– Almena Lomax, a civil rights activist and founder of the Los Angeles Tribune died March 25th at 95 years old.
Her son Michael Lomax, who is the president of the United Negro College Fund says that she died after a short illness.
She and her family moved from Los Angeles to the Deep South in the ’60s to be a part of the civil rights movement.
“She was a terrific writer…the only one of all the black newspapers at the time who really was fearless about exposing things as they were. She didn’t soft-pedal anything,” said veteran civil rights lawyer Leo Branton Jr.
