In a surprising and at times contentious interview, Cindy Porteous who headed the City’s effort to fund Community Crime Prevention Grants, told Afternoons with Amos she didn’t want to make public the successful grant applications.  Porteous’ statement stunned Amos and listeners.  Amos strongly insisted that the applications of the twenty-six non-profit organizations that shared $1.786 million in Indianapolis income tax dollars, are public records that must be publicly released. Porteous strongly disagreed.

Porteous also defended the actions of the grant selection committee.  Many in the community are angry that grass roots organizations and faith based groups, with demonstrated track records of operating proven crime prevention programs were summarily shut out of the process.  Hear the full interview above.  And please tell us your feelings in the comment section below.
