Democratic Mayoral candidate Melina Kennedy blasted Republican incumbent Mayor Greg Ballard over reports that the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department’s strapped for cash.  Appearing on Afternoons with Amos, an angry Kennedy demanded that Ballard and public safety officials explain where millions in tax dollars allocated for public safety, have gone. Over $75 million in extra tax funds have gone to public safety since 2008, yet IMPD is talking about eliminating a recruiting class and shifting officers from safe to high crime areas. Leaving some city neighborhoods uncovered. IMPD has also counted Park Rangers as sworn police officers to keep from paying millions in penalties under a Federal grant. Hear Kennedy’s interview above.
