A Republican Congressman from Alabama is making it clear that he has no compassion for undocumented immigrants.

Rep. Mo Brooks is seen in a video, which was posted to YouTube, making inflammatory remarks about undocumented immigrants.

“As your congressman on the House floor, I will do anything short of shooting them,” Brooks said to reporters after a town hall meeting last month.

He reportedly made the comments during the meeting, then repeated them for local reporters afterwords.

Brooks hails from Alabama, where Governor Robert Bentley recently signed one of the toughest immigration laws in the nation. The law mandates that public schools check students’ immigration status, allows police to arrest suspected illegal immigrants stopped for other reasons, and criminalizes giving a ride to someone you know to be an illegal immigrant, among many other restrictions.

Rep. Charlie Gonzalez, head of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, blasted Brooks’ remarks:

“Rhetoric referencing acts of violence has no place in the discussion for realistic solutions to our country’s immigration problems,” Gonzalez said. “Words have consequences”
