Live Blogging of Election Night Results.

8:25pm – It looks like democrats have captured control of the City-County Council. They are leading in the four At Large races and in eleven district races. That gives them a Council majority of at least fifteen.

8:10pm – With 70% of the vote in Melina Kennedy still tails Mayor Greg Ballard by 6,000 some votes. meanwhile Democrats are leading the four at large Council seats which would be a huge gain for them. It insures Council control for next four years.  Meanwhile, the democrats have picked up a Republican Council seat while republicans picked up the Libertarian Council seat.

7:48pm – There are significant number of Democratic precincts in Pike Warren, Center and Washington Townships left to be counted. Mayor Greg Ballard leads Melina Kennedy by 4,800 votes. The key is can she make up that difference with the precincts not yet counted. 52.5% of the city/county vote has been counted.  Meanwhile, the four democratic At Large Council candidates now lead, but it has been a see saw race for the fourth and final spot between Democrat Leroy Robinson and Republican Barbara Malone.

Democrats have not lost a Council seat. While Libertarian Ed Coleman lost his seat to Republican Jack Sandlin. So the GOP gains a Council seat.

7:27pm – Mayor Ballard continues to lead Melina Kennedy 25,272 to 21,895. Three Democrats – Barth, Hickman, Adamson lead the Council At Large followed by Republican Barbara Malone. Democrat Leroy Robinson in 5th. In Council Dist 15 – VOP OSILI has been elected. In Council District 25 – AARON FREEMAN has been elected. In District 24 – JACK SANDLIN beat Libertarian Ed Coleman. So there will be no Libertarian in the next Council.

7:20pm – Ballard lead now about 1,200 ahead of Kennedy. No change in Council At Large line up. No change in control at Council district level.

7:15pm – 13% of the vote in. Ballard still leads Kennedy by now just 600 votes. I’m ready to declare that in Council District 9 – JOE SIMPSON has been elected. Council District 10 – WILLIAM OLIVER has been re-elected.

7:10pm – 11% of the vote now in. Ballard still leads Kennedy by a little less than 800 vote. But large amounts of democratic precincts have yet to report. Barth, Hickman, Adamson still lead the At Large race. Malone 4th, Robinson 5th.

7:05pm – Almost 6% of vote. Ballard still leads Kennedy by 700 votes.  Three Democrats lead in the At large Council race. John Bath, Pam Hickman and Zach Adamson. In 4th is Republican Barbara Malone. Followed closely in fifth by Democrat Leroy Robinson. Top four vote getters win.

7:00pm – 5% of vote in. Ballard leads Kennedy by 600 votes. A third of precincts reporting are heavy GOP precincts. Can’t tell how well or not Kennedy is doing in heavy GOP areas. Meanwhile Council Democratic At Large candidates are running ahead of Kennedy and better than Ballard. They’re leading by a couple of hundred votes.

6:55pm – 3% of city/county vote now in.  Including some southside precincts.  MAYOR – In the Mayor’s race, with 19 of 590 precincts counted, mayor Greg Ballard leads Melina Kennedy by 150 votes. Democrats, though lead in the at large Council races by some 300/400 votes.  Could we be looking at a Democratic sweep of the Council At Large seats? Most of the 19 precincts are GOP ones right now.

First returns – 6:40pm. Three precincts in the heart of Center Township. They give Melina Kennedy a huge lead with over 87% of vote.  These are probably Black precincts with Mayor Greg Ballard getting just 12% of the vote.
